Tuzkol Lake

The main attraction of the lake is the amazing panorama of the ridges of the Central Tien Shan. Translated from the Kazakh language, “Tuzkol” means “Salt Lake”. It is located in the Almaty region at an altitude of 1,959 m in a closed drainage basin between the mountains of Elshin Buiryk and Karatau in the north and Zhabyrtau in the south. These mountains belong to one of the ranges of the Northern Tien Shan.

Tekes Waterfall

The waterfall is located in the Kegen district, which is about 250 kilometers from Almaty. It is on the Tekes River, which originates in the southeast of Kazakhstan, near the border with China. The waterfall is small, but very pretty. A rocky bowl with high slopes very organically borders the roaring flow of a mountain river. It is amazing here!

Karkara Alpine Camp

Karkara Base Camp is located in the alpine forest zone at an altitude of 2,200 m on the right bank of the Karkara River, 280 km from Almaty. This is the starting point for climbing peaks such as Karlytau, Pobeda, Marble Wall and, of course, the famous Khan-Tengri.

Bestube Reservoir

The Bestuben Reservoir is located in the Raimbek District of the Almaty Region. The reservoir is located in a mountainous area at an altitude of 1,700 meters above sea level on the Kegen River. The Bestuben Reservoir is one of the beauties of the Almaty Region. Many who have visited these places note that the local landscapes resemble the landscapes of Iceland.

Kolsay Lakes

The Kolsay Lakes are often called the “Pearls of the Northern Tien Shan”. They are surrounded by pine forests and are a popular place for recreation for residents and visitors of Almaty. Rare species of plants and animals can be found on the territory of the protected park.

Lake Kaindy

Lake Kaindy (Kaiyndy), located in the Tien Shan mountain system at an altitude of about 1,900 meters above sea level, is a natural landmark of Kazakhstan. It was formed in January 1911 after a strong earthquake, which resulted in a rock slide that blocked the river – and the valley filled with water. In the late 80s of the last century, the area of the lake decreased after a mudflow. Today, the length of the reservoir is 400 meters, and the depth is 25 meters.

Charyn Canyon

This picturesque natural area amazes with its unearthly landscapes. The depth of the canyon is 200 m. The height of the steep walls of the canyon reaches 150-300 m. The canyon itself is a natural monument, composed of sedimentary rocks, the age of which reaches 12 million years. The landscapes here are truly amazing. At sunset, when the sun goes beyond the horizon, the Charyn Canyon is painted in scarlet, pink and orange colors. There is silence all around, and only from below can you hear the turbulent streams of the Charyn River beating against the steep cliffs. This spectacle will not leave anyone indifferent.

Hot springs

Hot springs are thermal waters that come out of the ground under the influence of active mountain building and volcanic activity. Hot water contains many vitamins and minerals that have a beneficial effect on the fight against a number of skin and heart diseases. The springs are located in the village of Chundzha. Here you will find many health centers and recreation areas.

Singing Dune

The Singing Dune on the territory of the Altyn-Emel Nature Reserve is one of the most unique natural phenomena. The length of the sand mountain is about 3 km, and the height is 150 m. This natural phenomenon is located on the right bank of the Ili River, 182 km from Almaty. Many legends and tales are associated with the Singing Dune. In the Middle Ages, people who heard the singing of the dune believed that it was the howling of the shaitan of the desert. For a long time, scientists did not understand this phenomenon. In 1962, the Leningrad physicist V. Arabadzhi conducted a series of observations and found that the larger the moving mass of sand, the more expressive the sound: from a weak squeak to an organ melody and even a rumble. The reason for the sound of sand is the friction of grains of sand during its movement, but only the dry sand mass gives sounds.

Aktau Mountains

Aktau Mountains are a picturesque place with unique landscapes in the Altyn Emel National Park. In ancient times, the mountains were once an ancient sea that filled the Ili Basin. As the water disappeared, nature created beautiful gorges and canyons here, the steep walls of which are a layer of sedimentary rocks – from green and red at the bottom, to variegated and white at the top. The height of the deposits reaches 1,000 m. The main canyons are concentrated within three main ravines, stretching from top to bottom for more than 5 km.
